FREDDIE KRIVINE (1920 – 2005)
Freddie was, in 1972, one of the six Founder Trustees of the Israel Tennis Centers. He came to live in Israel, with his wife Shelagh, in 1984 and was immediately invited to become Director of Women’s Tennis. There isn’t a professional tennis player in Israel who does not credit some of the opportunities she had to the enthusiastic support and fund-raising abilities of Freddie. In 1992 he was elected President of the Israel Tennis Association; he was re-elected (uncontested) every other year until his death.
In 1998 he decided to focus on bringing many more Arab children into tennis and to create co-existence programmes for Jewish and Arab children. The charity he founded is now called the Freddie Krivine Foundation.
